Senator Akpabio made this known during a joint session of the National Assembly convened in honour of Democracy Day, where President Bola Tinubu addressed federal lawmakers. Also present at the session were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, members of the Progressive Governors Forum, as well as serving and former legislators.
The commemorative session replaced the President’s earlier plan for a national broadcast, marking the 26th anniversary of Nigeria’s return to democratic governance.
In his address, the Senate President provided a detailed breakdown of the legislative activities of the upper chamber. He disclosed that, in addition to the 844 bills introduced so far, 107 are currently at the committee stage while 499 have reached the second reading.
“The Senate has introduced 844 bills within two years. One hundred and seven bills are currently at various committee stages, while 499 bills have advanced to the second stage in the Senate,” Akpabio said.
