The Nigerian Army announced the discovery in a statement posted Friday, July 4, via its official X handle, @HQNigerianArmy, confirming that the explosives were detected during a targeted clearance operation by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from both Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases.
According to the army, “So far, a total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location. Controlled procedures are currently underway to render the remaining devices safe for complete recovery and disposal.”

The army said the successful operation was a critical breakthrough, potentially averting a mass-casualty attack and disruption to movement across one of the region’s most strategic routes.
