Former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has recalled how late President Muhammadu Buhari played a decisive role in securing his re-election as Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth in 1984.
Anyaoku, who made the revelation during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, said Buhari personally endorsed his nomination and ensured a high-level delegation delivered the letter of support to London.
Speaking on the events that followed the January 1, 1984 military coup that ousted the civilian government, Anyaoku said he was grateful for the gesture and integrity displayed by Buhari and then Chief of Staff, Tunde Idiagbon.
