US Warns Citizens in Nigeria Over July 31 Visa Deadline

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Interior, led by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recently introduced tougher sanctions for foreign nationals who overstay their visas.


These include a $15 daily fine and bans on re-entry into Nigeria for prolonged violations.


“US citizens currently in Nigeria who have overstayed their visa are strongly encouraged to fix their stay through the amnesty portal before July 31, 2025,” the US Embassy said in a statement on its website.
