1999 Governors Urge Tinubu To Prioritise Rural Security, Job Creation

Former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion, on Friday led a delegation of his 1999 peers to meet President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they urged the President to shift focus from short-term palliatives to long-term economic solutions through rural security and job-creating cottage industries.

Papers News reports that the visit marked the second time the “Class of ’99” governors elected at the dawn of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic would jointly meet with Tinubu since he assumed office in 2023. Their first meeting was held shortly after his inauguration on July 12, 2023.

Speaking to reporters after the closed-door meeting, Igbinedion said the delegation raised critical issues bordering on security, the economy, and agriculture, stressing that peace in rural communities was foundational to national development.
