Adamawa Governor Fintiri Joins APC
The governor made the declaration in a state broadcast on Friday, framing the move as one driven by the best interests of Adamawa’s people and the broader goal of national unity. He stressed the need for closer alignment with the Federal Government to unlock development opportunities for the state.
The defection did not come as a complete surprise. Earlier in the week, Adamawa House of Assembly Speaker Wesley Bathiya had already signaled the shift, stepping down from PDP membership on Wednesday alongside 14 fellow lawmakers. During plenary, the Speaker read out resignation letters one by one before the chamber concluded its legislative business for the day.
The mass defection marks a significant political realignment in Adamawa State, further weakening the PDP’s hold on one of its formerly strong northern bases.
