Lagos Approves 13% Fare Hike for BRT Buses

The decision was confirmed on Monday by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), which said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu granted the approval after appeals from regulated public transport operators over rising operational costs.

According to LAMATA, the new fare structure will take effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.

In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kolawole Ojelabi, the agency explained that the adjustment aligns with the state’s annual fare review mechanism and is intended to address ongoing economic pressures affecting the transport sector.
