The contract received the green light at a State Executive Council meeting and covers the development of the court facility on a 2.6-hectare plot adjacent to the existing State Judiciary Complex in Olipakala Village, Kobape, along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway.
The project addresses a long-standing challenge for Ogun residents. A review by the Ministry of Justice found that the majority of cases currently handled by the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal originate from Ogun State — meaning litigants and lawyers have had to travel out of state to pursue appeals, raising costs and in some cases slowing down the resolution of cases.
A major milestone came in 2025 when the President of the Court of Appeal formally approved the Abeokuta Division to begin operations — a decision that followed a landmark special sitting in Abeokuta in May 2024, during which roughly ten panels disposed of over 150 appeals within just three days.
