Force spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin addressed the matter on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, saying he reached out to Victor Egbetokun directly after the allegation went viral — initially surfacing through activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, who claimed the funds originated from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account.
According to Hundeyin, Victor told him the deposit arrived without any prior notice. Upon discovering the sum in his account, he immediately instructed his accounts officer to send it back. He has since closed the account, printed his bank statement as evidence of the reversal, and filed a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission requesting a formal probe into how the transfer was initiated.
The police confirmed the funds were returned to the Anambra State Government’s account shortly after they were detected.
