Wike Declares Friday Holiday, Imposes Movement Restriction Ahead of FCT Area Council Elections

Wike made the announcements in a special broadcast aired on national television and radio stations on Thursday, citing President Bola Tinubu’s approval for both directives. He called on FCT residents to turn out in large numbers to vote for candidates of their choice, while urging them to conduct themselves in an orderly and lawful manner throughout the electoral process.

All security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the movement restriction order.

Wike also used the occasion to commend President Tinubu for signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions and making electoral processes more transparent and credible.
