Abuja IVF Doctor Allegedly Sells Couple’s Embryos, Defrauds ₦19M – Granted ₦5M Bail

An Abuja-based medical practitioner appeared in court on Thursday over allegations of defrauding a couple of ₦19 million in an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) scheme and unlawfully selling their embryos.

The doctor, whose identity has been withheld pending further investigation, was arraigned before a federal court. According to the prosecution, the accused convinced the couple to pay for fertility treatments but allegedly misappropriated the funds and sold their embryos without consent.

The presiding judge granted the doctor bail of ₦5 million with strict conditions, including surrendering travel documents and regular reporting to the authorities. The case has been adjourned for trial, as investigators continue to gather evidence.
