Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, the Chairman of Agege Local Government Area in Lagos State, has been elected President of the West African region in the Young Elected Local Officials (YELO) Network.
This was disclosed in a statement by Feyisara Shodunke, Head, Public Affairs Office, Agege Local Government Area, on Thursday.
Shodunke said the election took place at the ongoing YELO Summit in Dakhla, Morocco.
The summit, which brings together young local government leaders from across Africa, aims to strengthen grassroots governance and promote sustainable development.
The summit also focuses on capacity building, exchange of best practices and prepares new leaders to address Africa’s urbanisation and governance challenges.
Obasa described his election as a responsibility to deepen democratic values, promote youth participation, and advance sustainable urban development.
He pledged to advance youth participation, strengthen democratic institutions and promote sustainable urban development.
El Khattat Yanja, Mayor of Dakhla and President of Young Local Elected Officials in Africa, described Obasa’s election as recognition of his leadership credentials and Nigeria’s growing influence.
