Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has alerted the public to a doctored video circulating online that falsely portrays her endorsing an investment scheme.
In a statement released on Sunday, the lawmaker clarified that the footage was manipulated without her knowledge or consent. She revealed that the clip originated from a legitimate television interview she granted to journalist Seun Okinbaloye, which was later edited to promote a fraudulent investment platform.
“Although the video looks like me and even sounds like me, it is not real,” she stated, describing it as fabricated content designed to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The senator distanced herself entirely from the platform featured in the video and called on Nigerians to disregard any investment offers linked to it. She further urged members of the public to report social media pages hosting the clip to help get it taken down.
Her warning comes amid a growing pattern of online scams exploiting digitally altered videos of prominent figures to lure victims into fraudulent schemes.
“Please stay vigilant, stay safe, and be guarded against online scams,” she cautioned.
