A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Princewill Dike, has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as Director-General of his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.
Papers News reports that Dike, a Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner, made the call while speaking with journalists on Monday.
The APC chieftain expressed confidence in Wike’s political strength, stating that the former Rivers State governor has the capacity to lead Tinubu to victory.
He noted that Wike had demonstrated political ingenuity during his time as governor by outmaneuvering opponents.
“I have hitherto asserted that should the political wonder boy of Rivers State, Wike, become PBAT’s re-election Presidential Campaign Council DG, his opponents would be in trouble,” Dike said.
Dike outlined reasons he believes Wike is best suited for the role, citing his wide political reach and campaign experience.
“He has a humongous political network across the wider spectrum of the federation.
“He knows how to generate campaign funds without disturbing Mr President.
“Rather than embezzle campaign funds, as is usually the case, he will even add his own money. He will even work 24 hours, criss-crossing the length and breadth of the states to achieve results.
“Wike knows the right politicians who can deliver. He is widely loved by Nigerians, particularly the youths,” he said.
Dike further pointed to Wike’s track record in elections, including recent political outcomes in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.
“Recently, he delivered the FCT Area Council election candidates to the APC. Even as a PDP member, the only one won by the PDP was under his rainbow coalition alliance. Senator Ireti Kingibe did not win even in her unit,” he said.
He described Wike as “a goal-getter with the unction of the Midas touch,” adding, “anything he touches turns gold.”
The APC chieftain also recalled a remark by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Odein Ajumogobia, who reportedly withdrew from the 2015 Rivers governorship race under the Peoples Democratic Party.
According to Dike, Ajumogobia had said Wike possessed exceptional political acumen.
“He knew politics at the tip of his fingers, as he himself knew the law at the tip of his fingers,” Dike quoted.
Dike concluded by urging the President to appoint Wike as campaign DG, expressing confidence that such a move would secure victory.
“It is, therefore, my fervent prayer that P-BAT should cherry-pick the star boy of his administration, Minister Wike, to be the Presidential Campaign Council DG of his re-election,” he said.
He added that during the 2023 general elections, Wike played a key role in delivering electoral victories in Rivers State, including support for Tinubu despite being in a different political party at the time.
