The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, David Mark, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of incompetence, saying it lacks the capacity to tackle insecurity in the country.
Mr Mark made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of the ADC’s second National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting.
According to him, Nigeria is grappling with worsening insecurity, marked by persistent cases of kidnapping and widespread violence.
“Nigeria is now bedevilled by unabating insecurity, kidnapping and violence of immense proportion. Unfortunately, these ills are now the new normal,” he said.
He added that the ruling APC had failed to address the situation.
“The ruling APC has shown incompetence. They have shown that they are incapable of arresting the situation,” he said.
Mr Mark, however, urged members of the ADC to rise to the challenge, expressing confidence in the party’s readiness to provide alternative leadership.
“Our party, the ADC, must rise to the occasion to address these ills. We are prepared to do things differently and make Nigeria a better and safer society,” he said.
He stressed the need to reposition the party as a credible platform for national renewal.
“Our task is clear—to reposition the ADC as the foremost platform for national renewal,” he said.
The former Senate President also called on party members to strengthen internal structures, deepen grassroots engagement, and build bridges across regions, religions, and generations.
He commended party leaders for their commitment and sacrifices toward the growth and stability of the party, noting that their dedication continues to inspire confidence in the ADC as a viable alternative for national leadership.
Mr Mark further urged collaboration with like-minded individuals and groups, stressing the importance of unity and strategic alignment.
“The time for collaboration, constructive engagement, and strategic alignment is now,” he said.
He added that party leaders must rise above personal interests and remain united in building a disciplined, people-oriented party.
“Internal cohesion, respect for party structures, and adherence to democratic principles must remain our guiding pillars,” he said.
