The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has urged leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to embrace reconciliation and unity following the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal concerning the party’s national convention.
Akpoti-Uduaghan made the call in a statement released on Tuesday, describing the ruling as an opportunity for the party to move beyond internal disputes and focus on rebuilding its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker said the party must now shift its attention from litigation and disagreements to strengthening its internal cohesion and preparing for future elections.
“The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a party that believes in the rule of law, it is time for us to turn the page on litigation and focus on reconciliation and rebuilding,” she said.
According to her, prolonged legal battles and internal conflicts could weaken the party’s ability to serve as a strong political platform for its members.
Akpoti-Uduaghan warned that continued disputes among party leaders could negatively affect grassroots members who are preparing to contest elections on the PDP platform.
“Our members across the country, those aspiring to serve in State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, the Senate, governorship positions and even the presidency, must not become victims of prolonged disagreements among leaders,” she stated.
The senator also stressed the need for the PDP to organise an inclusive and transparent national convention that complies with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
She noted that such a process would help restore confidence among party members and strengthen the party’s democratic credentials.
“Nigerians are watching, and this is the moment for the PDP to show that it remains united, inclusive and capable of providing leadership for the country,” she added.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to the unity and progress of the party and urged members nationwide to remain hopeful while actively supporting efforts to rebuild and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
