Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has insisted that he remains the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
MC Oluomo made the declaration on Monday following reports that Tajudeen Baruwa had taken over the union’s national secretariat.
Baruwa reportedly justified the move by citing court rulings which he claimed favoured his leadership of the union.
Reacting to the development, MC Oluomo described the action as a forceful takeover of the union’s headquarters.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, he maintained that legal proceedings regarding the dispute were still ongoing.
The statement clarified that MC Oluomo was not a defendant in the court judgment cited by Baruwa.
It added that the ruling had already been challenged in court.
“The National President wishes to intimate members of the union and the general public that he was not a defendant in the purported judgment,” the statement read.
“The judgment has been appealed, and a stay of execution has been duly entered.”
MC Oluomo further stated that he had not engaged with Baruwa or any other individual involved in the dispute, noting that the matter remained before the courts.
According to the statement, security agencies were already handling the situation.
The statement added: “He has not engaged with Mr Baruwa or any individual, aware that cases are pending in court.
“The situation is under the control of security agencies.
“Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya remains the National President of NURTW.”
Papers News recalls that the lingering leadership crisis rocking the NURTW escalated on Monday as police arrested factional president, Tajudeen Baruwa, despite a court order reportedly affirming him as the authentic chairman.
The arrest followed a dramatic takeover of the union’s National Secretariat in Abuja by members of the Baruwa-led faction.
Members of the Baruwa-led group were seen in a viral video taking control of the secretariat, removing and destroying portraits of MC Oluomo.
The NURTW has been embroiled in a protracted leadership crisis for over two years, following a disputed delegates’ conference meant to produce new national officers.
Despite the ongoing dispute, MC Oluomo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has continued to occupy the union’s National Secretariat.
