Baruwa Led NURTW Faction Seizes National Secretariat, Destroys MC Oluomo’s Portraits
A faction of the National Union of Road and Transport Workers (NURTW), led by Tajudeen Baruwa, has taken control of the union’s National Secretariat in a dramatic escalation of the ongoing leadership crisis.
The takeover, which occurred on Monday, was captured in a viral video showing members of Baruwa’s faction removing and destroying portraits of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
The NURTW has been embroiled in internal disputes for over two years following a contentious delegates’ conference meant to elect new leadership. Despite the standoff, MC Oluomo, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had continued to operate from the union’s national office until the recent seizure.
Adding to the controversy, Ganiyu Oyedepo, known as Koko Zaria, accused MC Oluomo of personal misconduct, claiming in a viral video that his former boss had relationships with his wives and girlfriends. Speaking in Yoruba, he described his years with MC Oluomo as filled with betrayal, emotional pain, and public misjudgment, alleging he suffered humiliation behind closed doors while being criticized online.
The events mark a new chapter in the NURTW’s prolonged internal conflict, highlighting deep divisions within the union.
