Baruwa’s Lawyer Alleges MC Oluomo Defying Court Orders, Claims Only Tinubu Can Remove Him

Legal counsel to Ibikunle Tajudeen Baruwa, Barrister Tolu Babaleye, has accused Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, of disregarding valid court rulings and acting with impunity.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Babaleye alleged that MC Oluomo’s continued stay as President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) is unlawful, insisting that a standing court judgment had already removed him and affirmed Baruwa as the legitimate leader.

The lawyer further claimed that MC Oluomo’s actions were allegedly backed by President Bola Tinubu, noting that such support had emboldened him to ignore judicial authority.

Babaleye expressed concern over what he described as a persistent failure to enforce court decisions, revealing that multiple petitions had been sent to key institutions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), without meaningful results.

According to him, although the NSA responded by inviting MC Oluomo for questioning, the union leader reportedly failed to honour the invitation, sending his lawyer instead and later declining to appear again.

He described the situation as troubling, alleging that MC Oluomo behaves as though he is above the law, while frequently invoking connections to the Presidency.

The lawyer also recounted a meeting with the Minister of Labour, during which MC Oluomo allegedly stated that only the President of Nigeria could ask him to vacate his position.

Babaleye questioned the implication of such a statement, arguing that it undermines the authority of the judiciary and due process.

He added that Baruwa’s camp had, over the past year, made several attempts to draw the President’s attention to the matter through petitions and media publications, but had yet to receive any response.

While expressing reluctance to conclude that the President supports any illegality, Babaleye called on Tinubu to clarify his position and determine which side is acting within the law.
