The Bauchi State Police Command has identified shortages of manpower, arms, and ammunition as key challenges affecting its operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, raised the concerns on Thursday while hosting the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo, at the command headquarters.
Aliyu said the gaps were limiting deployment and slowing response to security threats, despite efforts to sustain peace in the state.
He said: “At this point, it is pertinent to intimate the Assistant Inspector-General of Police on a few pressing concerns affecting the command’s operational capabilities.
The shortage of manpower is affecting deployment and our ability to respond swiftly, particularly in the light of increasing security threats across the state.”
The CP added that more personnel are needed for quick intervention duties at the Zone 12 headquarters, alongside reinforcement of the command’s workforce.
He also stressed the need for additional arms and ammunition to support ongoing operations against crime.
Responding, Kwaimo commended the command for its performance and acknowledged the concerns raised.
He said: “This is my first visit since assuming office on January 6, 2026.
“It reaffirms our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property, while upholding human rights and the rule of law.”
Kwaimo assured that the issues would be escalated for necessary action.
He said: “We will examine the challenges highlighted by the Commissioner of Police, particularly the issues of manpower shortages and other operational constraints, and do our best to address them.”
The AIG also stressed the need for discipline, accountability, and professionalism, warning officers against actions that could undermine the integrity of the force.
He reaffirmed the police mission to protect lives and property, assuring residents of sustained efforts to strengthen security across the state.
