Saudi Arabian authorities have declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as Eid-el-Fitr after confirming that the crescent moon was not sighted.
The announcement was made on Wednesday via HaraminInfo across its social media platforms.
The platform wrote: “The crescent moon has NOT been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, #EidAlFitr will be celebrated on Friday, 20th March 2026.
“May Allāh allow us to utilise the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl and may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn.”
Despite the declaration in Saudi Arabia, Muslims in Nigeria are awaiting an official announcement from the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
The Sultan traditionally confirms the end of Ramadan based on verified local moon sightings.
Earlier, he had called on Muslims across the country to look out for the new crescent on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the 29th day of Ramadan in the Islamic calendar.
