The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called for a coordinated approach among the military, police, and other security agencies to effectively address Nigeria’s growing security challenges.
The appeal came during a visit by the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu congratulated IGP Disu on his appointment and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to joint operations, citing the successful collaboration between the Army and Police in missions such as the United Nations Operation in Darfur.
Highlighting the Police’s role in tackling banditry and kidnappings in Kogi, Kwara, and Niger states, Shaibu emphasized that “only through a unified and well-coordinated inter-agency framework can lasting peace and security be achieved nationwide.”
In his remarks, IGP Disu stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation between the Army and Police, praising the Army’s training of Police Mobile Force personnel and promising continued intelligence sharing and operational collaboration to strengthen national security.
