The lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sunday Anamero Dekeri, has appointed veteran broadcaster Benjamin Atu as media aide in charge of managing the media and publicity unit in his office.
Papers News reports that the appointment, which takes immediate effect at the National Assembly of Nigeria, is aimed at strengthening communication between the lawmaker and constituents while amplifying the activities of the office.
Confirming the development, Dekeri said the appointment is expected to enhance feedback from communities across the constituency.
According to him, the move will also help identify areas where legislative intervention may be required to address pressing developmental needs.
The lawmaker noted that effective communication between public office holders and citizens remains vital to responsive governance.
Benjamin Atu, a seasoned media professional, brings years of experience in journalism, broadcasting, and public communications.
Over the years, he has served in several media and public affairs roles across government and political institutions.
He previously served as Chief Press Secretary to Ngozi Olejeme, former chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), as well as Senior Special Assistant to former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Atu also worked as spokesperson to former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.
The veteran broadcaster also served as personal assistant and spokesman to former senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Francis Alimikhena, at the National Assembly for eight years.
In addition, he was the Chief Press Secretary to the former Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area, Princess Benedicta Attoh.
Atu further served as Head of Media and Public Enlightenment at the Centre for Sustainable Development of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun.
Before his latest appointment, he was Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Idahagbon Henry Williams Omoregie, a federal commissioner at the Federal Civil Service Commission.
Atu began his media career at the Delta Broadcasting Service in 2004.
During his time there, he worked as a news cameraman, reporter, film editor, and presenter on both television and radio.
He also produced several programmes, including Government on the Move, The Man on the Street, Candid Issues, The Library, and the PEP Talk segment on PEP Show.
Benjamin Atu is an alumnus of Delta State University Abraka and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
He also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Benin and several professional certificates across various fields.
