Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have reportedly moved to take over a high-value property belonging to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in the upscale Maitama district of Abuja.
Sources within the anti-graft agency disclosed that the move is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial impropriety linked to Mr Malami’s tenure as Nigeria’s chief law officer under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the sources, EFCC operatives were sighted at the property earlier on Tuesday, carrying out what appeared to be preliminary steps toward sealing off or taking possession of the residence.
The development is believed to be connected to a broader probe into assets suspected to have been acquired through questionable means.
While details of the investigation remain sketchy, insiders hinted that the property in question is among several assets under scrutiny as investigators intensify efforts to trace funds and establish possible links to alleged abuse of office.
Attempts to get official confirmation from EFCC spokespersons were unsuccessful as of press time.
Similarly, Mr Malami has yet to publicly respond to the development or the allegations surrounding the reported move.
The former AGF, who served from 2015 to 2023, has in the past faced public criticism over controversial decisions during his time in office, including issues relating to high-profile corruption cases, asset recoveries, and legal interpretations of executive powers.
