FCT High Court grants bail to fertility doctor, John Abebe, amid smear allegations
Dr. John Abebe, renowned medical practitioner and managing director of Joje Fertility Centre Limited, has been granted bail by the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Jabi, in a case that has drawn widespread attention.
The arraignment, which took place on Wednesday before Honourable Justice Fashola, saw Dr. Abebe and his company facing a three-count charge brought by the Inspector General of Police. Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Following a bail application by Dr. Abebe’s counsel, Marvin Omorogbe, Esq., the court admitted the doctor to bail on liberal terms. Dr. Abebe has reportedly met all bail conditions and returned home to his family.
The charges arose from a petition by Mr. Hassan Turaki, who claimed that Dr. Abebe disclosed his wife’s medical report in communication with the doctor’s lawyer. Joje Fertility Centre, however, dismissed the allegations as a calculated smear campaign aimed at undermining Dr. Abebe’s reputation, built over more than 30 years of distinguished medical service.
The case has now been adjourned to allow the prosecution to formally open its case. Legal observers say the bail ruling provides temporary relief but does not influence the eventual outcome of the trial.
