The Federal Government has disclosed that it has begun evacuating Nigerians in Iran who wish to leave.
The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) confirmed the development in a post shared on 𝕏 on Tuesday.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the evacuation, ensuring that citizens who opt to leave Iran are safely escorted into Armenia.
“The willing Nigerians in Iran are being safely guided across the Armenian border by officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, ensuring a smooth and secure process for those seeking to depart,” she stated.
She also reassured that, to date, no Nigerian has been harmed amid the ongoing tensions and that embassy personnel remain on hand at the border to provide assistance and support to evacuees.
The evacuation, carried out in collaboration with Armenian authorities, forms part of the Federal Government’s effort to safeguard Nigerians abroad during emergencies. It emphasises the government’s vigilance over developments in the Middle East and its commitment to protecting the welfare of citizens overseas.
Meanwhile, Nollywood actor, Linc Edochie, has cautioned youths in northern Nigeria against staging protests in support of Iran following the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Papers News reports that the actor gave the warning after demonstrations were held in parts of northern Nigeria by groups showing support for Iran after the leader was killed on February 28, 2026, during a joint airstrike carried out by Israel and the United States.
The situation in the Middle East has continued to grow tense after Iran responded with attacks on United States and Israeli interests in several countries in the region. The exchange of attacks has raised fears of a wider conflict involving major global powers.
Amid these developments, protests in solidarity with Iran were held in some Northern Nigerian states.
Reacting to the situation, Edochie shared a video message on his Facebook page where he urged Nigerians, especially the protesters, to stay away from actions that could bring unwanted attention to the country.
According to him, the conflict between Iran and its rivals could develop into one of the most dangerous wars the world has witnessed.
He also warned that Nigeria does not have the capacity to face powerful nations if the situation draws their attention toward the country.
The actor advised Nigerians to remain cautious and avoid actions that could place the nation in a difficult position internationally.
“This may not be our direct concern, but what is happening in the world, let us take this matter to God in prayers. Whether it concerns us directly or we try to shy away from it, I’m sorry to say this: a third world war has formally begun.
“This war may not be fought on conventional terms, in all honesty, but it’s going to be the deadliest the world has ever seen. And to some of those guys up North protesting over what is happening in Iran, please let us leave the streets.
“You don’t want to provoke a superpower. If we draw their attention towards us, we’re in trouble. We cannot stand the fury of these countries. Let us just respect ourselves and manage our problems the way we are, please,” he said.
