FG Launches N100bn Solar Project for Public Institutions

The Federal Government has approved N100 billion for the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI), aimed at providing reliable electricity to public institutions nationwide.

Engr. Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), revealed this during a visit by Justice Babatunde Adejumo, Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), to REA headquarters in Abuja.

Aliyu explained that the programme targets government institutions struggling with inadequate power or rising energy costs and forms part of broader efforts to expand access through renewable energy. “President Bola Tinubu approved N100 billion for the initiative, and the NJI is among the beneficiaries,” he said.

Implementation has already started in key establishments, including the Department of State Services, EFCC, ICPC, National Hospital Abuja, and several educational institutions. REA will conduct an energy audit at NJI to determine the optimal capacity of the solar mini-grid system.

Justice Adejumo emphasized that stable electricity is critical for judicial training and research, underscoring the importance of the programme for the institute’s operations.
