FG Orders Arrest of Suspects Behind Sexual Assault, Public Stripping of Women in Ozoro
The Federal Government has directed security agencies to immediately apprehend individuals involved in the reported sexual assault and public humiliation of women in Ozoro, Delta State.
The directive follows widespread outrage over disturbing incidents in which some women were allegedly assaulted and forcibly stripped in public during a local festival in the Ozoro community, located in Isoko North Local Government Area.
Condemning the act in strong terms, government officials described the incident as a gross violation of human rights and an unacceptable display of lawlessness. Authorities stressed that such behavior undermines the dignity of women and contradicts the nation’s laws and values.
Security agencies, including the police, have been instructed to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, identify all those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice without delay. The government also emphasized that anyone found complicit—whether directly or indirectly—would face the full weight of the law.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern, with civil society groups, activists, and members of the public calling for swift action to prevent a recurrence and to ensure justice for the victims.
In response, the government reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all citizens, particularly women, and warned against any form of gender-based violence or mob action.
