Nasiru Gawuna, former Deputy Governor of Kano State and Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Governing Board, has resigned from his position, Naija News reports.
Gawuna, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kano, is reportedly preparing to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Sources say the official defection is expected on Tuesday.
In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna said his departure takes immediate effect, citing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that political appointees step down in compliance with the Electoral Act ahead of upcoming elections.
“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” he said.
Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, noting that his tenure allowed him to contribute to the growth of the FMBN and national development, particularly in supporting housing initiatives. He also pledged a smooth handover of responsibilities.
“I place my future in the hands of Allah (SWT) while seeking divine guidance for my next steps,” Gawuna added.
Prior to leaving the FMBN board, Gawuna formally resigned from the APC, signaling a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
