Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday swore in five commissioners approved by the State House of Assembly during a ceremony at Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor said the screening process conducted by the Assembly was rigorous and expressed confidence in the competence of the newly appointed officials.
Fubara said: “The nominees who successfully passed the process have demonstrated their readiness and understanding of the responsibilities of their offices.”
He added that he believes the commissioners will serve the state diligently.
Fubara said he trusts they will act in the best interest of Rivers State.
The five commissioners sworn in are Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
The governor, however, did not comment on the remaining four nominees who were not approved by the Assembly.
The Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly had earlier screened nine nominees submitted by the governor, approving five while rejecting four over discrepancies related to tax records and other matters.
