Ikeja Electric stated that the poor electricity supply across Lagos and other parts of Nigeria is due to constraints in gas supply to thermal plants, which produce the majority of the country’s electricity.
Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, March 24, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Kingsley Okotie, said the shortage had significantly reduced energy available on the national grid.
“The ongoing reduction in electricity supply is largely due to a nationwide drop in power generation, caused by limited gas supply to thermal power plants,” he said as quoted by the NAN.
“This has significantly reduced the energy available on the national grid and, consequently, the allocation to Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies.”
The shortfall has translated into a weaker supply for consumers, with many areas now facing intermittent outages and stricter load shedding.
Okotie said the company was working to manage the limited allocation while maintaining fairness in distribution.
“The management regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of our customers during this period,” he said.
“We remain committed to distributing the available power as efficiently and equitably as possible.”
He added that efforts were ongoing at the national level to address gas supply issues and restore stability to power generation.
