Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has indicated interest in contesting for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Papers News reports that the governor made this known during a visit by members of the State Executive Council, led by the Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, at his country home in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area.
Sule said mounting pressure from political leaders and stakeholders in the senatorial district influenced his decision to consider the race.
“With all the pressure coming from our leaders, and so I don’t want them to feel offended that I have not been responding, I promise them I will contest when the time comes,” he said.
The governor disclosed that he had earlier planned to support another candidate for the position but reconsidered after the individual joined others urging him to run.
He added that he is currently consulting widely before taking a final decision.
According to Sule, traditional rulers and senior political figures from Nasarawa North have been instrumental in persuading him to contest.
He noted that the move is also driven by the need to ensure quality representation for the district.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, reaffirmed the loyalty of the state executive council to Sule, pledging continued support for his leadership.
“We will swim with you until we get to the touch line, and together we will shout hurray! We have come, we have seen, we have conquered,” he said.
