Israel launched a new and intense wave of bombardment on Saturday against Tehran and other Iranian cities, claiming it was targeting military sites and infrastructure belonging to the Iranian armed forces and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The Israeli army said it had carried out a wave of strikes using more than 80 fighter jets on Tehran and central Iran saying that they targeted missile launchers and other military sites and infrastructure.
The aircraft reportedly dropped around 230 munitions on several sites associated with the Iranian government and military, as well as Imam Hossein University in Tehran, which is reportedly affiliated with the IRGC.
Israel claimed that the university “was used as an emergency facility and as a complex for assembling Revolutionary Guard forces”, saying it had also targeted “a storage site belonging to the missile unit that includes tunnels and infrastructure for launching missiles toward Israel.”
It also said it had targeted an underground site where “hundreds of soldiers form the Iranian armed forces worked”, containing shelters and military headquarters.
Israel also claimed to have targeted missile launch sites in western and central Iran.
Israel and the US launched unprovoked airstrikes on Iran last Saturday, killing over 1,300 people including 165 young girls at a school in the south of the country.
The war began while Iran and the US were engaged in indirect negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.
Iran has retaliated with missile and drone strikes against Israel as well as US sites in Gulf countries but its attacks have also hit civilian areas and facilities in the Gulf, including residential areas.
