The Lagos State Government has arrested 25 individuals accused of harassing motorists along the Lekki axis of the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on his official X account late Wednesday.
According to him, the suspects, described as “Omotaku,” were apprehended during an evening patrol by enforcement teams monitoring activities along major corridors in the area.
“During our evening patrol today, 25 individuals {Omotaku} who were harassing motorists along the Lekki axis were arrested.
“Harassment of road users and other forms of disorderly conduct will not be tolerated,” Wahab wrote.
He added that the state government would sustain monitoring and enforcement operations across key parts of the state to maintain order and ensure public safety.
“Our enforcement teams will continue to monitor key corridors across the State to ensure public safety and maintain order.
“Those apprehended will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action,” he stated.
A short video accompanying the announcement shows the 25 young men, most appearing to be in their teens and early twenties, seated closely together on the ground inside a fenced compound or holding area.
The arrests form part of an ongoing series of enforcement drives targeting street urchins, beggars, and related nuisances.
This comes a day after Wahab announced on Tuesday the arrest of at least 86 street beggars during a clampdown operation in the Agege and Ketu areas of Lagos State.
He said 12 suspected miscreants were also arrested during multiple monitoring and enforcement operations.
Wahab stated that out of the 86 beggars, 25 were first arrested in Agege, while others were arrested in Ketu.
