The Council of Legal Education has approved and released the list of 114 universities approved to run law programmes in Nigeria.
This was made known in a circular issued by the Council of Legal Education, which is based in Bwari, Abuja, on Friday.
It said only the listed universities are authorised to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in the country.
The circular was signed by the council’s Secretary and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho.
The circular warned that any university operating a law programme without the council’s approval would face sanctions.
The council also cautioned that students admitted into unapproved law programmes would not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
It said in the circular: “The public is further informed that any university that admits students into a law programme without the approval of the Council of Legal Education is acting contrary to the provisions regulating legal education in Nigeria and will be subject to appropriate sanctions.”
The council added that it would continue to update the list in line with its statutory mandate to regulate legal education in the country.
