The Muslim Rights Concern has consoled a former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, over the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummah El-Rufai, and thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving him a temporary reprieve to bury her.
The Eagle Online recalls that El-Rufai’s mother passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 in Egypt with the former governor in detention.
He is being detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commissions (ICPC) over allegations of corruption.
In a statement issued by the Executive Director of the human rights organisation, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group commiserated with the former governor of Kaduna State, his son Bello El-Rufai, and all members of the family.
Akintola said: “We thank Almighty Allah for the life of our mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
“Character is either inborn or instilled and cultivated.
“The physical resemblance between mother and son is a strong pointer to where the son inherited his high level principles.
“To the El-Rufai family and friends, let us take solace in the fact that it was El-Rufai’s mother who died, not the son and not the grandson.
“We have every cause to thank Allah for His divine Mercy. It means there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
The group prayed that Allah forgives the deceased mother and grants her Aljannah firdaos.
MURIC also appreciated the Federal Government, particularly President Tinubu and his National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, for facilitating the temporary bail granted to Mallam El-Rufai to enable him attend the funeral of his mother.
It added: “We know what happened in other climes.
“The late President Muhammadu Buhari could not attend his mother’s funeral because he was in detention.
“Neither could Sambo Dasuki 35 years later for the same reason.
“A human face has been added to embellish the corridor of justice in Nigeria.”
