National Convention: APC to endorse Tinubu, showcase stewardship, climate action
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that its 2026 National Convention, slated for March 25 to28, 2026, will focus on three key pillars: endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term, rendering an account of his administration’s stewardship, and spotlighting national climate action.
This was as the Environment and Sanitation Sub-Committee of the convention took to the streets of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday for a “Let’s Go Green” road walk, signaling the party’s readiness for the elective convention this weekend.
The exercise, which saw party stalwarts trekking through major routes in Abuja and led by the Governor of Kogi State and Committee Chairman, Ahmed Usman Ododo, served as both a physical demonstration of party vitality and a policy statement on the global climate change agenda.
It was described by organisers as a prelude to a convention that will go beyond internal politics to address domestic and international concerns.
Speaking during the event, Co-Chairman of the sub-committee and former Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, noted that the walk proved the party possesses the “capacity, energy and vitality” required to conduct a peaceful and successful convention.
The ex-governor emphasised that the APC is currently “repositioning and reloading” with a focus on a people-centered agenda.
“We are here to celebrate the Convention and an adoption, sort of, of President Bola Tinubu,” Ayade stated.
Echoing this sentiment, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, noted the significance of the environmental theme.
He noted that the party’s leadership chose to prioritize the environment to align Nigeria’s ruling party with the global agenda on climate change.
Dogara added that the convention provides a critical platform for the party to engage with the public.
“As far as I am concerned, this convention has offered us the opportunity not only to showcase what the party can do but to render an account of our stewardship to the teeming populace,” he said.
He also called for patience with current government reforms, likening the process to a healing period that naturally carries some level of pain before the benefits “crystalize.”
Secretary of the Committee, Senator Uche Ekwunife, expressed immense confidence in the party’s future, predicting a “landslide” victory in 2027.
She commended the Chairman of the Convention Central Coordination Committee, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, for the opportunity to serve, asserting that the APC is not just “green” but fully prepared to return President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to office.
Responding to inquiries about potential logistical hurdles, Aminu Masari dismissed concerns regarding challenges, describing them as a natural part of any significant undertaking.
“Life without challenges is meaningless,” Masari said, affirming that the party has aligned itself for victory ahead of the Saturday gathering.
The event was attended by a heavy contingent of APC leaders, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the party, Nze Chidi Duru and various state Commissioners of Environment, all of whom joined the march to demonstrate the party’s unified front.
