Nigeria on Alert: US Embassy Warns of Terror Threat to Schools and Facilities

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has raised the alarm over a potential terrorist attack targeting American diplomatic facilities and US-affiliated schools across the country.

In a security notice issued Monday, the embassy called on American citizens in Nigeria to heighten their personal security measures, particularly when visiting the US Embassy in Abuja and the US Consulate General in Lagos.

The advisory warned of a credible threat and recommended that citizens avoid predictable travel patterns by varying their routes and departure times, stay alert to their surroundings, and steer clear of crowds and public demonstrations.

Americans were also advised to keep a low profile, review emergency plans with their households, ensure their mobile phones remain charged at all times, and take note of emergency exits upon entering any building.

Despite the security alert, the embassy confirmed that both its consular section in Abuja and the Lagos consulate remain fully operational. It encouraged citizens to regularly check its official website for any new developments and provided contact channels for those seeking security guidance or assistance while in Nigeria.
