NSCDC Lagos Intensifies Infrastructure Protection Drive, Takes Stakeholder Engagement to Eti-Osa Communities
The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expanded its community sensitization campaign on the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), bringing the initiative to four divisions under the Area F Command Eti-Osa, Lekki, Ibeju, and Iru Victoria Island on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The engagement, held in line with a directive from NSCDC Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, brought together key stakeholders from the Eti-Osa Local Government Area to discuss strategies for safeguarding public infrastructure against growing threats of vandalism and theft.
Representing State Commandant Mr. Adedotun Keshinro at the event, Head of the CNAI Department Deputy Commandant Kolawole Agbetiloye told participants that the campaign targets a troubling rise in infrastructure-related crimes — including the destruction of fibre optic cables, transformer vandalism, manhole theft, blockage of access to critical sites, and illegal scrap dealing.
“The destruction of fibre optic cables and iron conduits buried underground by telecom and construction engineers is a serious economic and security concern,” Agbetiloye warned, urging community members to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.
He called on all stakeholders to channel reports of suspected vandalism to the nearest NSCDC office or via the Lagos State emergency lines — 112 and 767 — as well as the Command’s Public Relations Unit at +2348163597310.
The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa LGA, represented by Council Secretary Mr. Fadipe Olajide, praised the NSCDC’s commitment to community safety and encouraged the Corps to sustain the initiative. The Secretary also urged officers under Area F Command to push the sensitization deeper into local communities, stressing its importance to long-term security.
Market leaders, car dealers, and traders also made their voices heard. Mrs. Atewolara Iyabo, representing the New Road Market leadership, appealed for stronger NSCDC collaboration with market associations. Mr. Adenihun Adebayo of the Car Dealers’ Association called for increased night patrols to curb vehicle vandalism by criminal elements in the area.
At the close of the event, all stakeholders made a collective pledge to take ownership of infrastructure protection in their communities — committing to safeguard manholes, fibre optic cables, rail sleepers, power installations, and telecommunications infrastructure from vandals and miscreants.
Area F Command Area Commander Assistant Commandant Samson Ajayi and divisional officers actively participated in interactive sessions throughout the event. Goodwill messages were also delivered by representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, and LASRRA, among others.
