Peter Obi Visits Former AGF, Malami

The Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has paid a visit to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), amid trial over allegations of terrorism financing.

Papers News recalls that Malami is currently facing two separate cases, including allegations of terrorism financing and illegal firearms possession, as well as an ₦8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a social media post on Tuesday disclosed that Peter Obi visited Malami to express support over his ongoing legal proceedings.

The post read, “HE Peter Obi visits Abubakar Malami SAN to express support over his recent experiences with the EFCC, DSS and subsequent court proceedings by the Federal High Court FCT.”

However, further details surrounding the meeting and where it was held were not made public at the time of filing this report.

Recall that Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja recently granted bail to Malami, his son, Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife, Asabe Bashir, in the sum of ₦200 million each, with two sureties in like sum.

As part of the bail conditions, one of the sureties is to deposit title deeds of properties in highbrow Maitama or Asokoro.

The defendants have been ordered to deposit their international passports with the court.

They are to remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
