The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation following a widely circulated video that accuses officers of the Lagos State Task Force, led by CSP Adetayo Akerele, of hijacking vehicles and fabricating traffic violations to extort money from motorists.
The video, which went viral on Saturday, depicts the alleged scheme.
According to the video, a task force personnel allegedly seized control of a driver’s vehicle, repositioned it illegally on a one-way street to create false evidence of a traffic offence, and then proceeded to demand payment.
A male voice in the video said he paid a sum of ₦150,000 to avoid impoundment, stating that other victims pay such an amount to avoid further legal consequences.
Responding, the Lagos State Police Command acknowledged the viral content via its official X account.
In a statement released on Sunday, the command confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, had directed a full and urgent probe into the allegations.
“The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to the video currently circulating online.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
“The Command appreciates members of the public for bringing this to our attention and assures that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.
The incident forms part of a broader wave of public complaints targeting the conduct of the Lagos State Task Force under CSP Akerele’s leadership.
Earlier in March 2026, Objectv Media and other users on X highlighted multiple similar claims of aggressive enforcement tactics, including alleged framing of motorists after directing illegal manoeuvres and subsequent demands for cash to release impounded vehicles.
