Prince Collins Edema Declines Senate Bid Decision, Pledges Focus on Olu of Warri’s NNPCL Assignment
Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, the Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPCL/JV Partners, has responded to growing calls for him to contest the Delta South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections, saying he has not yet reached any decision on the matter while reaffirming his commitment to his current duties.
The response, issued as an official statement, followed a wave of appeals from the Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance and several other groups across communities in Delta South, who had publicly canvassed for Prince Edema to declare his intention to run for the Senate.
Acknowledging the sentiment behind the call, he said, “I deeply appreciate the call and overwhelming show of confidence from the Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance and the many other groups and well-meaning supporters across our communities. Your belief in me is not taken for granted.”
Despite the pressure from supporters, Prince Edema was unequivocal that his priorities remain anchored in his current assignment. “At this moment, my focus remains firmly on the responsibility already entrusted to me as Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPCL/JV Partners,” he stated, describing the role as “a duty to our people, to our future, and to the trust you have placed in me.”
He credited the assignment directly to the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, whom he described as his “benevolent Overlord,” pledging to carry out the responsibility “with integrity, hard work, and visible results.”
On the question of the Senate, Prince Edema was direct: “As of today, I have not taken any decision regarding contesting in the 2027 general elections.”
His statement, however, went beyond the question of his own political future. He outlined a broader political agenda for 2027, anchoring his immediate focus on two priorities. The first is supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Together with my supporters and political family across Nigeria, we are fully mobilized and committed to ensuring the return of the incumbent President His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” he said. The second is backing the re-election bid of Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose continuity he described as “vital for the progress we seek.”
Prince Edema also disclosed that he and his political associates are actively reviewing the candidacy question for the Warri Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. He expressed dissatisfaction with the constituency’s current representation, saying they are “tired of the current situation which has not yielded anything tangible,” and are seeking “worthy individuals” to take up the role.
Signalling that his team remains engaged behind the scenes, he assured his supporters that deliberations are ongoing. “My team and I are consulting widely, listening carefully, and evaluating all options with the seriousness they deserve. When the time is right, and when a clear decision is reached, you—the people—will hear from me directly,” he said.
Far from dismissing the calls, he framed them as a source of motivation rather than a burden. “This call you have made has not pressured me; rather, it has strengthened my resolve. It has renewed my determination to serve you with even greater courage, humility, and dedication,” Prince Edema stated.
The Delta South Senatorial District, which covers oil-rich communities including Warri, remains one of the most politically significant constituencies in Delta State. As the 2027 election cycle draws closer, Prince Edema’s eventual decision, when it comes, is expected to carry considerable weight among Itsekiri political stakeholders and the broader Delta South electorate.
