Sen. Wamakko donated ₦10m to Sokoto zakat agency, distributed 10,000 clothes to orphans — Aide

Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has donated ₦10 million to the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency, SOZEA, and 10,000 pieces of clothing to orphans and vulnerable children in Sokoto State ahead of the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by an aide to the senator, George Onmonya Daniel, who said the donation was aimed at supporting the less privileged and ensuring they partake in the Sallah festivities with dignity.

According to the statement, the ₦10 million contribution was made to the Zakat agency to strengthen its ongoing charitable programmes, while the 10,000 pieces of clothing were specifically donated for distribution to orphans and displaced children across the state.

Mr Daniel explained that the intervention reflects Senator Wamakko’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes and support for vulnerable members of society.

He noted that the former governor of Sokoto State has, over the years, consistently contributed to community development and social welfare initiatives across the state.

“Senator Wamakko believes that the joy of Sallah should be shared by everyone, especially orphans and vulnerable children who often lack the means to celebrate like others,” the aide said.

“This is why he donated ₦10 million to the Zakat and Endowment Agency and provided 10,000 pieces of clothing so that these children can celebrate the Sallah festival with dignity and a sense of belonging.”

The statement also recalled that Wamakko pioneered the establishment of the Almajiri Model School in Sokoto, an initiative designed to provide children in the traditional Almajiri system with a broader education that combines Qur’anic studies, Western education and vocational training.

According to the aide, the model later influenced reforms undertaken during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan aimed at improving the Almajiri education system in the country.

“Over the years, Senator Wamakko has remained committed to supporting programmes that uplift the poor and vulnerable, particularly in Sokoto State,” Daniel added.

“He considers it a responsibility to give back to society and ensure that those who are less privileged are not left behind, especially during important religious celebrations like Sallah.”
