TikToker Who Highlighted BRT Queue Issues Lands Role as Co-Host of Movie Premiere
A TikTok content creator, Ella, popularly known online as @DarkskinnedElla, has revealed that she has been selected to serve as a co-host at an upcoming movie premiere following the attention her videos about Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) queues in Lagos received online.
Ella made the announcement in a video shared on her TikTok page, where she expressed excitement over the unexpected opportunity.
The content creator first gained widespread attention after posting videos documenting the difficulties commuters face while trying to board BRT buses at various terminals across Lagos.
In one of the viral clips, she filmed long lines of passengers waiting for buses at a terminal in Ikorodu, urging the state government to deploy more buses to ease the congestion.
Her videos quickly circulated across social media platforms, drawing reactions from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
In response, LAMATA advised content creators to respect passengers’ privacy and obtain consent before recording or sharing videos captured on public transportation. The agency also clarified that a supervisor seen confronting Ella in one of the videos was not its staff member but an employee of a private bus operator.
Following the public attention generated by her posts, Ella later stated that additional buses were deployed to the terminal she frequently used.
She also disclosed that a tech entrepreneur, Keniye Koroye, assisted in organizing a fundraiser to support her transportation expenses after she reported receiving threats while filming at the bus terminal.
Ella further shared a recorded phone call which she said was from the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, who assured her that more buses would be made available.
Announcing her latest development, Ella described her appointment as co-host of a movie premiere as a surprising turn of events.
“From rushing out on the queue to being the co-host of a movie premiere. If you told me that would happen to me, I would not even believe it,” she said.
She also appreciated the support she received from people online and explained that her videos were intended to highlight the daily struggles of commuters.
Ella admitted she feels nervous about the new role, noting that it will be her first time hosting a major event.
