Tinubu, First Lady welcomed by King Charles as historic UK visit begins + Photos
President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu received a ceremonial welcome from King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, marking the start of a historic two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.
This visit is the first official state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, the last being by General Ibrahim Babangida in 1989.
The Nigerian First Family was first greeted at the Fairmont Windsor Park by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who then escorted them to the town center for the formal meeting with the King and Queen.
The President was honoured with a 42-gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery at Windsor.
The visit, scheduled to last two days, will see King Charles host the president and his wife at the royal residence, with activities including an exchange of gifts and a private viewing of Nigeria-related artefacts from the Royal Collection.
A state banquet is also expected to hold at St George’s Hall as part of the high-level engagements.
