Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. on March 18.
According to Zagagola Makama, the operation was carried out by troops of the 25 Brigade Nigerian Army in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The arrest followed intelligence reports linking the suspect to a suspicious phone conversation with another alleged terrorist.
According to the sources, the suspect, who resides in the Damboa area, admitted during preliminary interrogation that he was a member of ISWAP.
He, however, claimed to have disengaged from active operations.
The suspect and his mobile phone have been taken into custody for further investigation and necessary action.
Security officials say forensic analysis of the device may provide additional intelligence on terrorist networks.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at tracking and dismantling terrorist cells across the North-East.
