Veteran journalist Reuben Abati has said that Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has established himself as the national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even as the party continues to grapple with internal disputes.
Abati made the comments on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, pointing to recent PDP developments that highlight Wike’s growing political influence, particularly in the wake of rival party conventions and conflicting court rulings.
Discussing judgments from different courts, including those overseen by Justices Lifu, Omotosho, and Akintola, as well as decisions from the Court of Appeal, Abati emphasized that Wike remains a dominant force within the party.
He also questioned the legitimacy of conventions held by rival factions, including the one at Moshood Abiola Stadium, which was reportedly observed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Wike has established himself as the national leader of the party,” Abati said. “People on the streets now see him as a central figure. But with conflicting court rulings and ongoing disputes over which faction’s convention is valid, more drama is likely before the Supreme Court settles the matter.”
Abati noted that despite PDP’s challenges, Wike’s influence is clear, and he continues to play a decisive role at both the state and national levels.
