The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its ongoing leadership crisis, insisting that the opposition party is solely responsible for its internal problems.
The ruling party accused the ADC of spreading conspiracy theories about alleged attempts by the APC to destabilise it.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, said the ADC’s current predicament was self-inflicted.
Morka described the ADC as a political platform plagued by confusion and desperation, adding that the party had effectively orchestrated its own downfall.
According to him, the party’s internal crisis began when a faction led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola allegedly took control of the party leadership in violation of its constitutional provisions.
“Quite apart from being an assembly of Nigeria’s most confused and desperate politicians, the African Democratic Congress has distinguished itself as a peddler of rabid conspiracy theories about what the APC is or is not doing to undermine the party,” Morka said.
He further described the ADC as a party that was destined to unravel because of what he called poor leadership decisions.
The APC also defended the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise the factional leadership of the ADC led by David Mark.
Morka said the electoral commission acted in accordance with the law and relevant court rulings.
“INEC’s decision to de-recognise the factional David Mark-led executives in compliance with the judgment of the court is valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with electoral policy and democratic practice,” he stated.
According to him, the development was a direct consequence of what he described as the ADC’s reckless handling of its internal affairs.
The APC spokesperson accused the opposition party of refusing to take responsibility for its internal disputes.
He argued that a political party unable to manage its internal structure cannot credibly claim it has the capacity to govern the country.
“A party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria,” Morka said.
Morka further alleged that the ADC had focused more on criticising the APC rather than presenting alternative ideas or policies.
He claimed that attacks on the ruling party appeared to be the ADC’s main political strategy.
“The ADC has absolutely nothing to offer more than its senseless attacks against the APC. Attacking the APC seems to be its cardinal commitment and manifesto,” he said.
Despite the political exchanges, Morka said the APC and the administration of President Bola Tinubu remained committed to implementing the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the administration was focused on strengthening democratic institutions and promoting peace, unity and prosperity across the country.
