The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led top security officials on a fact-finding visit to Jos, Plateau State, following recent violence in the area.
The visit comes in response to the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Jos North Local Government Area, where several lives were lost. The incident, which occurred in Anguwan Rukuba, has heightened security concerns across the state.
Shaibu was received on arrival by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, highlighting coordinated efforts between the military and the state government to address the situation.
During the visit, the army chief was briefed by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The briefing focused on ongoing operations and joint strategies with other security agencies to contain the crisis, protect residents, and restore stability.
He also met with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the military’s commitment to their safety. Shaibu called on the public to remain calm, adhere to the curfew, and cooperate with security agencies.
Jos North Council Chairman, Dachung Bagos, commended the visit, describing it as timely and confidence-boosting. In the same vein, Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Ladi Dangyok, appreciated the swift intervention, noting it reassures affected communities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to tackle insecurity and ensure lasting peace in Plateau State.
