The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of undermining opposition parties across Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Mark alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is deliberately weakening rival political platforms to consolidate power.
He questioned why the president would fear a credible electoral process despite the APC’s dominant political position, which includes control of a large majority in the National Assembly and over 30 state governments.
The former Senate President’s remarks followed the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from the ADC’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by him.
Reacting to the development, Mark described the move as part of a broader attempt to dismantle opposition parties, warning that such actions could threaten Nigeria’s democratic stability.
According to him, the ADC remains a critical safeguard against authoritarianism, and any effort to weaken it could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s political future.
Mark urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to resist what he described as anti-democratic tendencies, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the nation’s electoral system.
He also maintained that there is no leadership dispute within the ADC, dismissing claims by rival figures and insisting that the matter should have been left for the Court of Appeal to resolve before INEC took action.
